چکیده

For an isotropic hyperelastic material, the free energy per unit reference volume, ψ, may be expressed in terms of an isotropic function ψ = ψ̄(E) of the logarithmic elastic strain E = lnV. We have conducted numerical experiments using molecular dynamics simulations of a metallic glass to develop the following simple specialized form of the free energy for circumstances in which one might encounter a large volumetric strain trE, but the shear strain √ 2|E0| (with E0 the deviatoric part of E) is small but not infinitesimal: ψ(E) = μ(trE) |E0| + g(trE), with μ(trE) = μr − (μr − μ0) exp „

Mechanical Characteristics and Failure Mechanism of Nano-Single Crystal Aluminum Based on Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Strain Rate and Temperature Effects

Besides experimental methods, numerical simulations bring benefits and great opportunities to characterize and predict mechanical behaviors of materials especially at nanoscale. In this study, a nano-single crystal aluminum (Al) as a typical face centered cubic (FCC) metal was modeled based on molecular dynamics (MD) method and by applying tensile and compressive strain loadings its mechanical ...

Influences of Small-Scale Effect and Boundary Conditions on the Free Vibration of Nano-Plates: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation

This paper addresses the influence of boundary conditions and small-scale effect on the free vibration of nano-plates using molecular dynamics (MD) and nonlocal elasticity theory. Based on the MD simulations, Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS) is used to obtain fundamental frequencies of single layered graphene sheets (SLGSs) which modeled in this paper as the mo...

Aspects of the mechanics of metallic glasses

Metallic glasses are amorphous materials that possess unique mechanical properties, such as high tensile strengths and good fracture toughnesses. Also, since they are amorphous, metallic glasses exhibit a glass transition, and at temperatures above this glass transition, they soften dramatically and are therefore amenable to net-shape thermoplastic forming processes. This combination of superio...

Yield point of metallic glass

Shear bands form in most bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) within a narrow range of uniaxial strain ey @ 2%. We propose this critical condition corresponds to embryonic shear band (ESB) propagation, not its nucleation. To propagate an ESB, the far-field shear stress s1 Eey/2 must exceed the quasi-steady-state glue traction sglue of shear-alienated glass until the glass transition temperature is appr...

Investigation of Important Parameters in Residual Stress Determination in Isotropic Plates and Laminated Composites by Slitting Method

In the slitting method, a small width slit is created incrementally through the thickness of the stressed specimen and the released strains in each increment are recorded by a strain gauge. Compliance coefficients relate the measured strains to the residual stresses. This paper investigates the important parameters influencing the calculation of compliance coefficients for isotropic plates and ...
